What I Run:
I run #healthITchicks, a socially networked community of women (and men!) who work in healthcare technology. Our LinkedIn group and monthly tweet chats offer women the chance to discuss what's it like working in healthcare IT, including such hot topics as gender diversity, work/life balance, the wage gap, and so much more.
Dreams I chase:
That one day, gender-related issues will no longer make headlines.
What I run after (dogs, kids, adventure):
I run after my two daughters - keeping up with their schedules is almost another full-time job! I also run after our two dogs, one of which is a 60-pound ball of puppy energy.
What I run (or walk) to stay fit:
I also run after tennis balls. I've played tennis since I was a kid, and find it to be a great way to relieve stress and socialize. I'm introducing both of my girls to it now, and secretly hoping they'll play on a double's team with me when they get older!
What I learned along the way:
Patience is definitely a virtue. Being gung ho about an idea is great, but I've learned that rushing into something without taking a little time to "chew" on it first often leads to avoidable mistakes. Take that great idea, ruminate on it for a day or two, then talk about it with your best sounding board. I am blessed to have a circle of personal and professional confidantes that I go to with my ideas. They are quick to tell me if my idea has merit or needs further fleshing out. I've also learned that faith CAN move mountains. As a Christian, I have found a wellspring of hopeful motivation in Jesus Christ that enables me to greet each day with a joyful optimism.
